No, dear author friends, I’m not talking about a miracle cure for writer’s block. You’ll have to solve that dilemma  on your own. However, I can recommend a way to help with all those aches and pains from sitting at your desk for long hours at a time. If you are like me, you can easily spend 8-10 hours a day at a desk. That takes an extreme toll on your body.

When I ended up in my doctor’s office for neck and back pain, my doctor strongly urged me to get a “sit-stand” type desk. Just as the name suggests, the desk will allow you to either sit or stand depending upon your preference and needs at the time. Before committing to a purchase, I did a lot of research. Ultimately, I chose the Varidesk. They have different models to choose from for all budgets. There are less expensive brands on the market–you can even pick one up at Costco–but the Varidesk allows you to adjust the height at any point versus pre-established settings. For me, this was a big plus!

Which Varidesk Did I Choose?

Since I have a large desk area to work with, I chose the Varidesk Pro Plus 30 and I couldn’t be happier with my choice! It allows for ample work space and my wireless keyboard easily fits on the lower platform when extended.  As the video shows, there are multiple solutions depending on your needs.

Varidesk Positions

Ease of Use

You might be wondering just how easy the Varidesk is to operate. It’s simple. Even with a large monitor it easily moves into position with a light squeeze of the levers and a lifting motion. You do not need a lot of upper body strength with the spring-loaded action! This makes it invaluable, in my opinion, to anyone who suffers from back or neck pain.

I cannot thank my doctor enough for his recommendation. Since purchasing the Varidesk, I truly have experienced “pain-free” writing! Except for the times when I get so involved in my writing that I forget to utilize my desk. But, that is my fault. So whereas the Varidesk will not help you with writer’s block, it will definitely ease the tension in your muscles.

Do your research. I highly recommend an investment in a “sit-stand” desk, whatever brand or model you choose.

If you’re curious about the Varidesk, I’d be happy to answer any questions.  I wish I had someone to turn to when I was investigating the different options. Reap the benefits of using an ergonomic “sit-stand” desk. After all, a pain-free writer is a productive writer! So go ahead, make an investment in yourself–you’re worth it!

Happy writing,

K. Lamb
