Teacher’s Appreciation Week is May 8th through May 12th, 2017. When we think about teachers, we think of the wonderful women and men who taught us, who teach our children, who inspire a new generation year after year. They are our role models. However, the best teachers know that they are also students.

As humans, we are always evolving, always learning. We cannot allow ourselves to become stagnant. Instead, we pursue our development and knowledge in ways that bring contentment and makes us feel empowered. There are always new things to learn. Whether they are academic or creative, discover a new perspective, a new idea, a new passion.

Today’s lesson is that we are all students and all teachers. For we all have the capacity to share our knowledge and skill sets. So whether we are ten or thirty (or any age above, below or in between) we have the responsibility to help one another grow. I love this video by Kid President. He reminds us all that we have a part to play in this world, and that together, ordinary people can bring about change. To quote the dynamic (and vastly entertaining) Kid President, What are you teaching the world?

I would like to say ‘thank you’ to all of the teachers and students for their dedication, for sharing their love of learning, for inspiring, and most of all, for making the world a better place to live.

May you never stop learning, and never stop teaching.

I would like to give a special shout-out to my family and friends who are teachers. People do not often realize the long hours you endure, the late nights and weekends, and the resources that you pay for out-of-pocket. Your devotion to your students and their success is commendable. It is never ‘just a job’ to you.

This year, please do not forget your child’s teacher. In fact, it doesn’t need to be reserved for a special day or week. Two simple words—thank you—can mean all the difference to a teacher to help encourage them after a difficult day. Show support to a teacher you know. They will thank you for it by helping your child to excel.

With highest respect,

K. Lamb
